Mary lectures in Historical and Orthodox Christian Theology at the University of Nottingham.

Her research has recently focused on the history of devotion to the Virgin Mary in Christian tradition, as well as on sermons and their reception in the Byzantine world.

In her spare time she plays viola da gamba (especially 16th-17th century chamber music) and walks in the Peak District.
